| A). Fish swim normally, but
breathe heavily |
 |
Is the temperature too high? |
 |
Slowly lower water temperature
by gradually replacing it with cooler water. Adjust heater. |
 |

- Oxygen deficiency
- Excess Ammonia or Nitrites
|
 |
- Aerate water and/or add
Methylene Blue.
- Do water changes and use
Aqua Gold to re-establish biological filter.

Your fish are affected with a
gill disease |

Treat with:
Acriflavine Neutral -or-
Forma-Green |

| B). Fish hang out
just beneath the surface of the water and breathe rapidly.
They move around less and die in full color |

Are the Gills lilac in color?
Ammonia poisoning! |
 |
Do partial water changes.
Add 2 - 5 drops per gallon of
Methylene Blue. |

Do several partial water
changes and test for Nitrites. |

| C). All the fish,
or just closely related species, dart about, jump and hit the
walls of the aquarium and other objects. Colors fade |

A toxin is in the water.
Has any medication been given recently? |
 |
Do several partial water
changes. Filter the water over fresh activated charcoal.
Test the tank landscape for toxic substances. |

The fish have Whirling disease |

Treat the fish with:
Quinine Sulfate. |
|
| D). Some fish
remain apart from others and darken in color |
 |
They may be affected by Skin
parasites |

Use: Praziquantel

-or-
Copper Sulfate. |

 |

|
| |
|
Intestinal Parasites may also
be the cause. Are the fish getting Skinnier? |

Examine the Feces. Treat
with
Paracide-X. |

Have the fish darkened and
become apathetic? The fish may have blood flagellates |

Treat the fish with
Methylene Blue for 5-7 days. |

Are there other changes (e.g.,
losing weight, pop-eye, swollen body?
Dropsy |
 |
For pop-eye use
Erythromycin
If both eyes are swollen, this is dropsy and is hard to cure.
Try raising the temp up to 84 degrees fahrenheit. Use a
Doxycycline/Kanamycin combo
treatment for up to 2 weeks.
If losing weight and sunken eyes, this could be Tuberculosis.
Quarantine this fish and treat with
Kanamycin for up to 30 days. |

| E). Are the fish losing
weight without fading, and do many have swollen bellies?
Are their droppings white and mucoid? |

Your fish have intestinal
